We tried it several times with the child lock in both positions; cannot open either rear door with the inside door latch. Outside latch works fine.

You will need to take the interior panel off of the door, and check all the internal linkages. The power door locks not operating the driver's door lock, might be a problem with the actuator in the door lock, because that is a common problem.
